For most, our time spent in high school was undeniably when most of us went through our – awkward phase. Those dreaded report cards and unpleasant moments disrobing in the locker room were just a fragment from the unpolished few years of our young adulthood. Our latest Ferrvor Man, Beau Mirchoff, knows all too well the trials and tribulations that come with adolescence and what it means to truly be, awkward.

For the last five seasons, MTV’s Awkward, has turned those gawky high school memories into the most hilarious thirty minutes of pure nostalgic comedy. Lead actor Beau Mirchoff plays high school student and prevailing popular teen Matty McKibben. Matty deals with the same ailments that we have all experienced in our teen years, including that too familiar, complicated love triangle. Despite it all, he finds a way to rise to the occasion, assuring all that wounds will heal and life moves forward.
Beau began his career in a very traditional atmosphere. He gained recognition for his role in the play, Bubbly Stiltskin. Soon after, he landed supporting roles in films, Scary Movie 4, The Grudge 3, and I Am Number Four. He also spent time on the popular television show Desperate Housewives before landing his lead role in Awkward, and the rest as they say… is history.
We sat down with Beau at the ever so hip Chamberlain Hotel in West Hollywood and got to know the man behind Awkward’s Matty McKibben.
What is your most awkward experience as an actor?
I was doing a play, and it was opening night. I entered the stage too early and opened the door into an exiting actor’s face.
How would you categorize your own personal style?
Do you consider yourself an extrovert or an introvert?
What kind of Cocktail would best describe you?
An Old Fashioned: I’m as the name implies, a little bitter, a little sweet, and I’ll always make you feel great (unless you have too much of me, then you will get sick).
From your Awkward cast mates, who would you take to a 5k mud run with?
Nikki DeLoach because she has a kid, and knows how to get dirty.
Boxers? Brief? Birthday suit?
All of the above. Not at the same time, that’d be silly.
Who is your celebrity female crush?
Rose Byrne: she’s smart, funny, attractive, talented, smart, funny, wait I already said those. Sorry, this is what Rose does to me.
Any advice to those trying to make it in Hollywood?
Work hard, harder than everyone else.
What traits do you look for in a partner?
Kindness, honesty, and a penchant for ping pong. Though not necessarily in that order.
What would constitute a fun night with Beau?
Go hang at a bar and chat, then see what that inspires.
If you weren’t an actor, what other profession would you pursue?
I would like to be a journalist; a war correspondent. I think . . .
Who is your go to designer for red carpets?
With all the phenomenon around superheroes, what hero do you see yourself as?
Hmmmmm. Are the Ninja Turtles superheroes? If they’re not, they should be. I would be the Orange Turtle because he likes pizza. Or do they all like pizza? In that case I see myself as all of the Ninja Turtles. Minus the Ninja aspect – I don’t know how to do that. Though I do know how to do pizza.
And finally, what app on your phone are you most obsessed with?
And with that its a wrap. We enjoyed a few more minutes together at the top of the hotel by the pool and said our goodbyes as we wished Beau all the best in his career, including his new role in the sci-fi remake Flatliners.
