Ferrvor’s Creative Director, Kaleb Khu, sat down with GANT Rugger, Head of Design, Filippa Hallstensson, in an exclusive interview on their SS15 Collection. The association between GANT Rugger, Ivy League heritage, and reinvented, vintage, preppy classics for today is hardly accidental. It is the brand’s cultivated image. The SS15 collection is giving men what they are familiar with; American prep, overall clean, not challenging, but 100% wearable.

What was the inspiration behind the collection?

For SS15 the perfect staycation was our canvas. We imagined the casual-cool vacay drop out, a guy who may be dreaming about sailing in Maine, but decides to stay in town with his group of friends and create their own vacation. Uneven yarns create dynamic textures, mixed with cooling lightweight cottons and linens.  The perfect summer fabrics are all in the silhouettes and fits that GANT Rugger is known for, unconstructed for that effortless and laidback look.  For colors, we wanted to keep a tight color story, focusing on three main palettes. American Sportswear classics, red, white and navy are represented throughout the collection while washed out army, khaki, and blues creates a calm muted story. Pastels are washed to perfection giving the clothes a subtle yet colorful look. Pops of bright yellow give the collection a tropical vibe for the concrete jungle. Looking beyond sharp suits, we used unconstructed fabrications to design the new season staples. The new luxe madras and Nubuck jacket are the season’s must-haves. Our staycation is defined by a dressy-but-messy style; it’s about finding that relaxed leisure luxe look.

What Gant Rugger outfit would be ideal for Ferrvor Man?

The “Hopsack Bomber” is a must, it’s a hybrid between a classic club blazer and a bomber jacket. It’s the perfect example of how we tweak classic garments at GANT Rugger. Match it with the tailored pants in same fabrication and a white pocket tee and you get a suit á 2015. It’s dressy but messy and a very versatile outfit that is spot on for day and night.

LA weather has it’s surprises. One minute you need a coat, the next it’s t-shirt weather. How does Ferrvor Man put together an ideal outfit?

There’s nothing as difficult as planning outfits for a hot summer in the city. How do you stay cool and still look sharp? That was actually our starting point when designing this collection. Summer is an easy time, so I believe keeping things simple is the way to go. But simple doesn’t necessary mean shorts and a tee. We’ve been finding ways to work with cool fabrications such as cotton-linen blends throughout the collection, in t-shirts, pants as well as our signature blazers. My advise to the Ferrvor Man is to pay close attention to fabrications, linen is a heat conductor and is great for summer.
