THIS WEEK’S SOUNDCLOUD DISCOVERIES

We were searching through the depths of Soundcloud over the weekend, and here are some of our favorite picks, including new songs from ODESZA, Jimmy Napes, and Madeon.

The first song comes from one of our favorites, ODESZA. Their 2014 album In Return, displayed their versatility within the electronic world. Their latest remix is of RAC’s “We Belong,” featuring Katie Herzig, off of their 2014 album Strangers. ODESZA keeps the emphasis on the intimacy of Katie’s vocals, which soar of bright synths and invigorating snares.

Our next favorite is an exciting collaboration between Madeon and Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit. Madeon is fine tuning his debut album, Adventure, which is set to be released on March 31,  and this is one of the first songs he wrote for his album. Being a huge fan of Passion Pit he brought Michael along for his journey to contribute his vocals to the track.

We wrote about Jimmy Napes not too long ago, and he’s back with his latest single “Making of Me.” Napes is fresh off his wins alongisde Sam Smith at the 57th Grammy Awards, and the day after he gives us his newest piece of art. The track opens off with violins and a piano setting a somber and intimate mood, but soon he switches it up. Seeming like a ballad at first it soon changes its identity to be a danceable hit, something Napes knows really well after working with Sam Smith and Disclosure.

Lyon & Lowe burst onto the scene in May of 2014 with their first single “Like Oedipus,” and the duo present us with their newest single “One Million Chances.” This duo is one of a kind, combining classical piano playing, distorted vocals, and snares and kicks from an EDM style. All of their songs are fun, upbeat, and will have you nodding your head along with their unique sound.

We came across “Dark Sky” by Alêtro somehow, and there is a mystery with him. All we know is he reigns from Australia, and has only 3 songs available on his Soundcloud. “Dark Sky,” is amazing, and would be a shame not to share with the world now. The synths and bass line would be perfect for a festival with the crowd dancing along, and the vocals shine over the instrumentation, which everyone would sing along to. If he releases more songs similar to this, we expect to see him at many upcoming festivals.

We hope you enjoy these tracks and stay tuned for our next discoveries!
