2015 belongs to The Weeknd, as he continues to dominate the year with not only his music, but also with his major influence in fashion.
Abel Tesfaye, otherwise known as ‘The Weeknd,’ has finally risen to the top. With 2015 being a hectic year of music news (Drake vs. Meek, Dr. Dre’s Return, Frank Ocean’s Album) it isn’t giving much credit to what Abel is doing. The craziest thing about it is that he started this streak since July 2014.

This is the date “Often” was released. It’s now appearing on his Beauty Behind the Madness, releasing August 28, 2015. During the campaign for the track, it peaked at #59 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100, and #12 on the U.S. R&B Charts. Now he’s going to get at least 1 million more listens to a song released 387 days ago. Insane. Then came a collaboration with Ariana Grande for her album, My Everything.
In December of 2014, Abel released “Earned It,” which was then announced as the lead single for 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack. He captured the attention and fandom of listeners who would’ve never thought to listen, all from being on a blockbuster trailer that someone saw in a commercial during The Voice. This song went viral, as it went triple platinum.
Let’s fast-forward to today. “Can’t Feel My Face,” is the #1 song of the summer. It’s almost certified double platinum. It’s pretty much a guarantee to hear this song every day, as it’s all over the radio, bars and clubs, and stores worldwide. It also got the honor of Martin Garrix releasing a surprise remix of his song.
His much anticipated sophomore album is releasing August 28, 2015. Not only is it the first album in two years, but it also will have some big features. Ed Sheeran offers his voice for “Dark Times,” as does Lana Del Rey for “Prisoner.”
In “Tell Your Friends.” Abel enlists Kanye West to produce the song, as it has a similar tone as “Bound 2“, and the combination is everything we needed. We’re hoping to hear a remix with Kanye singing over his own production. Some of our other favorites consist of: “Losers,” “Shameless,” and “Angel.”
Abel offers Kanye his assistance to be the model of Kanye’s upcoming Adidas line. Shot with GQ, he also offers his insight on Kanye West, music, drugs, and Joe DiMaggio in an interview.
Beauty Behind the Madness will easily bring Abel back to relevance in the music world, as he prepares for his upcoming “The Madness” tour. He’s calling on the acts of Banks, Halsey, and Travi$ Scott to open for his shows. Here are the dates that Abel will be touring:
